Dr. med. Katja Schmitz began her affiliation with Targos in 2012, working with Targos Molecular Pathology and Targos Advance for the analysis of FISH, SISH, RNAScope, and IHC, as well as training initiatives.Dr. Schmitz studied medicine in the English language program of Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary; and completed her studies at Heinrich-Heine-University in Düsseldorf, where she received her medical degree. She began residency training at University Hospital, Cologne, before her current position as a pathology resident in the Institute of Pathology at University Hospital, Göttingen.Dr. Schmitz’s major field of interest is molecular pathology and diagnostics, including ISH and immunohistochemical biomarker analysis. Her doctoral thesis included an analysis of different sarcoma entities, in regard to their level of expression and amplification on MET. At the Institute of Pathology in Göttingen, she is actively engaged in molecular routine diagnostics, particularly FISH.
